American Elderberry Can Handle Wet Soil.

American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) offers white flowers that are later followed by small, dark purple fruits. Notably, it can handle wetter soils and is popular with many animals (its fruits are a source of food for them while its branches serve as habitats). American Elderberry grows 6 – 12 ft. tall and is hardy in Zones 4 – 8.
