Pre-Sprout Your Seed Potatoes.

About a month before you plan to plant your seed potatoes outdoors, you’ll want to pre-sprout (or ‘chit’) them. Chitting involves placing seed potatoes in open egg cartons or on trays in a bright but cool area, as this encourages them to sprout. While not strictly necessary, pre-sprouting can help to speed up plant emergence later. You can plant your sprouted potatoes in the ground once outdoor temperatures are stable and your seed potatoes have sprouts that are roughly 1 inch long.
